The Great Northern Development Corp. Small Business Development Center (SBDC) works to increase profits for small Montana firms and to create jobs for the state’s workers. 

The SBDC accomplishes this goal by offering confidential counseling, business training, and information to small business owners in Northeast Montana at no cost.

With the assistance of SBDC director, entrepreneurs can develop or enhance the financial, managerial, and technical skills they need to succeed in today’s highly competitive business world.

The SBDC has helped a wide variety of businesses since its inception. Those businesses include restaurants, floral shops, computer sales and service, print shops, day-care, light assembly, tourist services, manufacturing, agriculture, and food production.

SERVICES PROVIDED 

  • Finance Technical Assistance in all aspects of business start-up and expansion including:
    • financial analysis
    • financial planning
    • loan packaging
    • state and private capital sources
    • government licensing and permitting
    • employee requirements
    • capitalization expectations 
    • bookkeeping
    • scheduling
    • marketing 
    • competition considerations

 
  • Assistance with business plan preparation and implementation for new business startups and existing businesses
  • Marketing assistance, opportunities and advice on appropriate marketing strategies
  • Advice to small businesses about environmental regulations, pollution prevention, pollution control equipment and the permitting process
  • Evaluation of financing needs and identification of possible resources for financing.


 

Besides relying on extensive personal experience, the Specialist coordinates with other resources such as the Small Business Administration, the region’s chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), the Montana Department of Commerce, and community leaders. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR SBDC SERVICES.
